[1]Can you engrave or cut metal? (Our number one question)
Simple Answer is NO. We use a CO2 laser, and the frequency of the beam has no effect on metal. However, we can 'mark' some metals with black text and logos by using a special coating on the metal that turns black , fuses to the surface, and can only be removed with a sander or grinder. The lasers that engrave and cut metal, will not engrave or cut most of the materials we use. It's all a matter of machine operating frequency and the reaction of the resulting beam on the material it strikes. We do have special metals that react to the CO2 laser beam. Alumamark in Gold or Silver will mark black, and we have black brass coated steel(marks gold), or black coated aluminum(marks Silver) or Black Anodized Aluminum (Marks 'whitish grey') However, if you need etched or engraved Brass, or Aluminum, We do have trade suppliers that can do 'some' of this type of work. Just give us the specifications you need, and we will do our best to quote it..

[2] Can I download an image from the web, and have it used on my order?
Yes, and No. Most images on the web are owned by someone, and unless you have permission, we will not be able to use them . There are some public domain line art images available, you can Google "public domain images" and see quite a few. We also have quite a number of images on hand that are royalty free, and may suit your purpose. Just let us know what your looking for. If you do send us one from your website, please keep in mind that it MUST be at least 300 dpi .. Most web images are only 75 dpi and will etch 4 times smaller than what you see on your monitor. Most web images can not be used due to poor image resolution, and will probably look pretty bad if we try to use them. As a result, we don't..

[3] Can you etch Logos and other images onto my shot glasses or other products?
Yes. In most case we can. Here is a link to our artwork specification page that will tell you exactly what we need.

[4] How deep does glass etch?
Glass does not etch deep, it doesn't have to. The only way you will remove the etch, is by removing glass from the surface. Not an easy task. The other reason not to go deep, the deeper the engraving, the closer the dots are together, and eventually will blow out the image and the poorer it will look.

[5] What is the difference between etching, engraving, and marking?
'We' define etching as into the 'surface' only i.e. about .001" - .002" deep which is deep enough to be permanent, and still maintain very high detail. Engraving  is usually much deeper, at least 1mm deep into the surface of the material. We etch into Glass, Granite, and Marble, and engrave into wood, plastic, and leather. Laser Marking is a result of the laser beam reacting with some metals (the resulting mark colour will not be known or predicted until the beam hits it). Sometimes the metal itself will change colour, sometimes I have to coat it with a special compound that fuses to the surface and turns black under the intense heat of the beam.

[6] How long does it take to etch, pack, and ship my order
We try to get most items completed and shipped with-in 10 business days of the customers final approval of the layout. If your order is going to take longer, we will contact you.
But Please NOTE: Lack of planning on your part, does not constitute an emergency on my part.
Sometimes we can do a 'True' Rush order in far less time than normal, email me to find out if it's possible.

[7] Do you send out free samples?
No, if we sent samples to the literally hundreds of requests we get every year we would have to raise all our prices. If we have something you need that is not on our website, we will take a photograph of it and email it to you. If you require a sample of a custom product for a potential order, we will charge the standard setup fee($25.00 per product positioning), engraving charge and shipping costs(to be paid by e-transfer or PayPal). The setup fee being a one time charge, will be deducted from your future order providing no changes are required. In some cases, where we actually have to make a holding jig for a quantity run of an unusual shape there will be extra charges based on time and material to create the holding jig..  Or, if you just want to know if your item can be etched or engraved on a laser, you can drop off or ship a sample to me of your item to be etched, and I will fit it in during the weekly schedule as a test. If the test is a simple random mark to see if the laser can etch or mark it, there would be no charge. I will email back a photo of the results. If a full setup is required standard charges will apply.

[8] Will Glass etching wear off in the dishwasher?
No. A dishwasher will not remove the etching unless it removes glass from the surface, which is highly unlikely

[9] Can I pick my order up at your store rather than have it shipped
Yes. As a matter of fact, most of our customers in Southern Ontario do, and save the S&H and shipping insurance costs.

[10]  If I'm supplying a design for my order, can I just send you a .jpg
Sometimes you can, if it's photo at least 300 dpi or 2000 pixels wide. A general rule is if it's attached to your email and shows smaller than your screen size then it's probably too small for most uses. If  it contains text, bit image text is almost always  too blurry to use unless it's VERY large..

[12] Can I call you with my order
Unless you live around the corner from me and have cash in hand, no. I do not give firm quotes over the phone, nor do I accept orders over the phone. To keep orders & quotes as accurate as possible everything is done via email. Please use the same return email address for all your correspondence, I keep track of quotes/orders/changes/proofs via your email address. Everything you order will be confirmed by email, and usually accompanied by a product image of some sort. If you do call and leave a message, ALWAYS follow it up with a email. In order to keep prices as low as possible, I do not return long distance phone calls. Please use email.

[13] Can you engrave or etch a sports, or a popular company logo onto something for me?
If  'you' own the logo or 'you' have written permission to use it on the product you want YES.. Otherwise NO.. i.e  No I cannot engrave the Harley Davidson Logo, anything from Disney, or any sports team logos onto anything, unless you can show me written permission on the official letterhead of the copyright owner of the image, granting you the permission to use their property on your project. I used Harley and Disney as an example because they are the most asked for images, and those companies have more lawyers and money than God!

[14] Can you engrave leather?
Yes, depending on the leather and the image. Some leather is only etched into the surface (some leather is pretty thin). The only thing I can't do, is tell you what colour the leather etch will turn out. Leather is completely unpredictable as to etching colour. Black leather can go anywhere from deep dark and virtually invisible brown, to almost a bright white and we never know what it will be until the beam hits it. Brown leather (un dyed natural tan) usually turns a shade of brown...

[15] Can I come to your location, and see some of your work
Yes, My hours are 9am-6pm Monday ~ Thursday (I am closed Friday,Saturday,Sunday). Special arrangements can be made for after hours and weekend pickups. Just ask, we'll work something out..
The shop is located in a Large two story Barn shaped building next to my house, and the sales area is right through the front door of the shop(Just walk in).  We are in a residential area (didn't used to be, but over the years everything has grown up around us) Here is a map to my location from the 400 highway and a street view of the shop. If you get lost on the way, call the shop at 705-431-0216 and I'll talk you in..

[16] What is the maximum size object that you can engrave or etch?
Generally the engraving space in the laser cabinet is 12" x 24" x 6".. If it's taller than 6" I will not be able to get it under the lens. However I can fit longer items into the cabinet providing the part of the item sticking out through the door in the side is no wider than 5.5". Which means, I usually have no problem engraving things like Canoe Paddles, or Base Ball Bats.
